Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "Wuhan Botanical Garden") was established in 1956 and officially established in 1958. It is a comprehensive scientific research institution integrating scientific research, species conservation and science popularization. It is one of the three core scientific botanical gardens in China, including Optics Valley, Moshan, China Africa Joint Research Center - Kenya Park, Jiangxia and Xinzhou bases and a number of field observation stations.
Guanggu park is located in the future science and technology city of Wuhan East Lake high tech Zone, adjacent to Jiufeng 1st Road in the south, Guanggu 8th Road in the East and Jiufeng Creek in the west, covering an area of 1103 mu. Its functional orientation is to focus on scientific research, transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, experimental demonstration of new varieties and new technologies, and talent training. The park will specifically collect and conserve important bioeconomy resources, carry out germplasm innovation and research and development of plant functional compounds, and build new varieties of characteristic agricultural plants The new achievements demonstration base has become a biodiversity conservation area and scientific research achievements incubation demonstration area with high standards and starting points, focusing on biodiversity protection and integrating scientific research and achievements exhibition, science popularization and sightseeing and leisure.
Located on the coast of East Lake and at the south foot of Moshan mountain, Moshan Park covers an area of 886 mu. It is a comprehensive research base for national plant resource reserve and ex situ plant protection. It now collects more than 13000 species of protected plant resources, and has built Kiwi special garden covering the widest genetic resources in the world, the largest aquatic plant special garden in East Asia, the largest wild fruit tree special garden in Central China, the ancient relic and unique rare plant special garden in Central China There are 17 characteristic special gardens such as the special garden of medicinal plants in Central China. Taking advantage of resources and talents, we will carry out distinctive popular science education around three themes: plants and human settlements, biosafety, water and human health. It is now the national science popularization education base, the national scientific research science popularization base, the National Youth Science and technology education base and the national forestry science popularization education base, the national AAAA tourist scenic spot, the Hubei provincial and Wuhan Municipal Science Popularization Education, environmental education, patriotism education base, and the Hubei provincial drug prohibition science popularization education base.
There are 255 on-the-job employees, including 141 scientific researchers; It has four master's degree training centers in Botany, ecology, garden plants and ornamental horticulture, biology and medicine, two doctoral degree training centers in botany and ecology, and two post doctoral mobile stations in biology and ecology; It has established the national Kiwi germplasm resource garden, the national podophyllum germplasm resource bank, the Key Laboratory of aquatic plants and watershed ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Key Laboratory of plant germplasm innovation and characteristic agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the kiwi Industrial Technology Engineering Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Danjiangkou wetland ecosystem field scientific observation and research station (academy level) The comprehensive monitoring system for the operation safety of the Three Gorges Project of the Ministry of water resources, the ecological environment monitoring station in the drawdown area, the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of wetland evolution and ecological restoration, the Hubei Kiwi Engineering Technology Research Center, the Hubei provincial characteristic resource plant engineering technology research center, the Hubei Provincial Engineering Research Center for high-quality Kiwi high-efficiency biological breeding and processing, and other relatively perfect scientific research platform systems.
Wuhan Botanical Garden has established close cooperation and exchange relations with famous universities and scientific research institutions in more than 40 countries or regions, such as the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, etc., and successfully held the Third World Botanical Garden conference in 2007, with its international influence increasing. In 2013, the China Africa Joint Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the first comprehensive science and education institution assisted by the Chinese government overseas, was approved for construction. It is an important measure for our park to implement the "the Belt and Road" strategy, and has become a demonstration base for China Africa science and education cooperation and science and technology assistance.
Wuhan Botanical Garden is the affiliated unit of Hubei botanical society, Wuhan Botanical Society and kiwi branch of Chinese horticultural society; It is the supporting unit of the aquatic plant professional committee of China Wildlife Protection Association and China Wetland Protection Association; The Journal of plant science is the core journal of Natural Science in China.
In the face of new development opportunities and challenges, during the "14th five year plan" period, Wuhan Botanical Garden determined its development orientation and goals as follows: based in Central China, it is committed to the collection, conservation and sustainable utilization of global subtropical and warm temperate strategic plant resources, as well as the scientific frontier issues and major technological bottlenecks in Watershed Governance and ecological security of large-scale projects, and to carry out strategic and forward-looking applied basic research. Relying on the China Africa Joint Research Center and the "Shennong facility" and other platforms, it will provide scientific and technological support and decision-making basis for the "the Belt and Road" initiative, the revitalization of villages in the Yangtze River economic belt, the construction of river basin ecological security barriers and ecological civilization, become a world-renowned biodiversity and environmental education base, and build a scientific botanical garden with distinctive characteristics and important international influence.
